SCOTLAND’s top clubs are celebrating after a radical overhaul of the League Cup landed them an £8 million windfall - but despite the cash boost, the country remains at the bottom of football’s rich list.

BT Sport have signed up to screen the new-look competition for the next four years, with 13 matches from the tournament – which now features a summer group stage and a bonus-point shoot-out for drawn matches – to be broadcast live each season.

Bosses from the Scottish Professional Football League say the new TV package will raise more than double the £900,000 a year generated by the current BBC deal.

On average, BT will pay around £150,000 per match, although the exact prize money sums handed to clubs will be based on how far they progress.
