A SEASON which at one point promised so much ended with a whimper for Morton as they went down meekly to a Stevie May-inspired Hamilton Accies.
Scorers: Hamilton - May 39, 55
This game had end-of-season humdrum stamped all over it from the opening whistle with a vastly under-strength home team looking like they would rather be anywhere else and Hamilton with nothing tangible to fight for – as has been the case for some weeks now.
No surprise then that this encounter was never in danger of being a classic although, in May, the visitors had the game’s shining light as he proved with a typically enterprising finish six minutes from the end of an instantly forgettable opening half.
The second half showed initial promise of having more to offer as both teams came close in the early exchanges with Martin Canning heading the bar for Accies and fellow veteran Martin Hardie seeing his free-kick turned round the post at the other end.
The game, though, was soon to be put to bed as May, a surprise omission from the player of the year nominees, struck again as he tucked home his second of the day to settle the issue amid some horrible home defending.
