Mario Balotelli could make his Italy return against Denmark this evening.
The Manchester City striker has not played an international since his impressive Euro 2012 campaign, having missed the previous round of World Cup qualifiers after opting to have laser surgery on his eyes, and then sitting out Friday’s 3-1 win over Armenia with a virus.
However, Balotelli has returned to light training over the weekend and could be ready to go tonight. “Balotelli responded well to tests,” said team doctor Enrico Castellacci.
The possible return of Balotelli has coincided with fresh selection problems for Cesare Prandelli, not least the likely absence of veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. The Juventus man has an adductor problem and sat out training over the weekend.
