Justin Bieber confirmed for Virgin space trip

THE Canadian singer and his manager Scooter Braun have both signed up to the Virgin tycoon’s space tourism venture, which is currently accepting $250,000 deposits for flights to the edge of space.

Branson confirmed the duo’s interest, tweeting: “Great to hear @justinbieber and @scooterbraun are latest ‘virgingalactic future astronauts. Congrats, see you up there!’”

Bieber, 19, is thought to be worth well over $100 million (£64 million), and has previously spoken of his desire to go into space.

The Virgin Galactic spaceship - dubbed SpaceShipTwo - is currently undergoing testing, and could begin operation as early as 2014. The ship will take travellers from New Mexico 62 miles above the planet to the boundary of outer space, before flying back down for a runway landing.

In February, the singer told his 40 million followers on Twitter that he wanted to perform a concert in space, although he has since been beaten to his goal of recording a music video in orbit by International Space Station Commander Chris Hadfield. Hadfield recorded a cover of David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ in his last days aboard the ISS before his return to Earth.
