THE eagerly anticipated Scottish Cup fourth-round clash between Edinburgh rivals Hibernian and Hearts will be played on Sunday 2 December, with a 3.30pm kick-off, the Easter Road club announced last night.
The match, which is a re-run of May’s final, when Hearts ran out 5-1 winners, will be televised by Sky Sports. Hibs said that ticket details will be released shortly.
Meanwhile, the outstanding form of Leigh Griffiths makes Hibs favourites to beat Hearts in the tie, according to John Robertson. But the former Hearts player and manager believes that no matter if the home team win handsomely it will not atone for their humiliating 5-1 defeat by their city rivals in May’s cup final. “I wouldn’t think Hearts fans will be looking forward to it,” Robertson said. “They’ll be fearful, because Hearts are so inconsistent at the moment. So right now I would think Hibs fans will be more happy and far more confident.”
Describing Griffiths’ recent performances as “brilliant”, Robertson believes he can be the matchwinner. “He’s the difference between the two teams at the moment,” he added. “He looks so alive right now and he’ll look upon this game as a chance to set the record straight. That would ease the pain of May. Hearts fans cannot get over losing 7-0 to Hibs until they beat them 7-0. Likewise Hibs can’t ease the pain of losing 5-1 in a cup final until they turn Hearts over in one.”
