SFL clubs are threatening to leave for the SPL, Rangers’ ‘blueprint for the future’ leaks out, and another English Premier League team is after Victor Wanyama, plus all the rest of today’s football news and gossip in Saturday’s Rumour Mill.

SFL clubs’ resignation threat - latest

THE back pages are dominated by the news that ten SFL clubs have threatened to resign from the league to join forces with the SPL.

First Division teams Morton, Livingston, Hamilton, Falkirk, Raith Rovers, Dumbarton, Dunfermline, Cowdenbeath, and Queen of the South have told the SFL of their intention to leave if there is a chance to form an SPL2. Their letter is co-signed by relegation favourites Dundee.

SFL chief David Longmuir has hit out at the plans, saying the teams’ position is “difficult to comprehend”. (Scotsman)

Southampton ‘after Victor Wanyama’

Southampton are the latest side to be linked with a move for Celtic’s Victor Wanyama.

Wanyama, who said last month that will “be at Celtic next season”, was reportedly watched by Southampton scouts during last week’s defeat to Motherwell.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs in the English top flight after impressive displays in Celtic’s domestic and European run. (Mail Online)

Charles Green ‘wanted Johan Cruyff at Ibrox’

Barcelona and Netherlands legend Johan Cruyff was one of the managers on former Rangers chief executive Charles Green’s wishlist, according to new documents released yesterday.

The ‘Way Forward’ document plans for Rangers to play Barcelona-style ‘total football’, with the goal of a Champions League or Europa League win by the end of the decade.

To that end, Cruyff, along with former Barca boss Frank Rijkaard and Ajax coach Frank de Boer, is on a list of potential directors of football.

The document also reveals signing policy details, such as a desire to avoid “troublesome stars” and the “need to lose the reputation that we are an institution that can afford high wages”. (Various)

Russell hopes transfer talk stays civil

Johnny Russell has spoken out over continued speculation of a summer move away from Tannadice.

The centre-forward has been repeatedly linked with a move to Italian side Catania, and both his agent and club have fired missives at one another in recent weeks.

Russell said: “I hope it doesn’t turn ugly and I don’t think it will. If anything does happen I want it to be the best for all parties.

“The most important thing for me is to get back and get some goals or game time.” (Various)

Jackie McNamara wants Partick bonus

Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara is demanding to be paid a performance bonus by First Division champions Partick Thistle - the team he left over three months ago.

McNamara left the Jags to take the reins at Tannadice, but his representatives have contacted Firhill bosses to demand the payout for his role in taking Thistle back to the SPL. (Express)
