It’s the morning after the Old Firm match before and while the fall-out is less vociferous than usual with less riding in the game than usual – the big match of the weekend between the Premiership top two still dominates the headlines.

However with a Scottish Cup semi-final weekend looming, not to mention the summer transfer window and European Championships on the horizon – there are still plenty of stories across the country and much transfer speculation.

And of course, Scottish football being Scottish football, there’s also the more unlikely stories that pop up now and again – such as the rock superstar making managerial predictions and calling for sculptures at stadia.

Room for improvement

Reported Celtic transfer target Charlie Wyke suffered an injury set-back for Sunderland at the weekend. The forward has also been linked with Nottingham Forest and Cardiff and missed the win over Plymouth with a thigh strain. Boss Lee Johnson revealed the striker would also require a minor operation on an unrelated issue (Sunderland Echo)

Scotland international Lyndon Dykes’ 12-goal season for Queen’s Park Rangers has alerted clubs including Fulham. The former Livingston forward moved to London last summer for a six-figure fee but could attract offers after impressing in the Championship (Teamtalk)

Six ‘to say no’

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire says the big six clubs in England would block Rangers and Celtic’s path to the Premier League - despite reports that the clubs are behind a new British League proposal which would invite the Old Firm to compete (Football Insider)

Kent cash

Liverpool could benefit from a cash windfall this summer - if interest in Ryan Kent increases and materialises in a move. The 2019 deal taking the winger to Rangers is believed to include a 20 per cent sell-on fee due to Anfield accounts - plus £1m in add-ons over his performance and appearances. ‘Love it here’

However Kent says he is 100 per cent focused on Rangers and ‘loves the place’ despite flattering links with ‘big clubs’. He also spoke of Steven Gerrard’s influence on his performances this season and the lure of the Champions League football with Rangers next season (The Scotsman)

Newcastle United sent scouts to Sunday’s Old Firm match to assess Celtic defender Kris Ajer during the 4-1 defeat to Rangers. The Norwegian assisted Cetic’s only goal of the game through Odsonne Edouard (Scottish Sun)

Scott Monument

Sir Rod Stewart believes Celtic should erect a statue dedicated to Scott Brown outside Parkhead and predicts the Hoops midfielder will make a return to the club sooner rather than later (The Scotsman)
