Football briefs: Dundee | Sneijder | Rochdale | Ross County

DUNDEE were last night mulling over a swoop for former Dundee United forward Jason Scotland.

Trinidad and Tobago striker Scotland has been recommended to Dens manager Barry Smith as he tries to steer his side towards SPL survival. The 33-year-old former St Johnstone and Swansea City player is a free agent after leaving Ipswich Town and is keen to kick-start his career. Dundee are also understood to be taking Faroe Islands international defender Pol Johannus Justinussen on trial.

Gala occasion as Sneijder checks in

Wesley Sneijder was mobbed by delighted fans after arriving in Istanbul last night to put the finishing touches on his move to Galatasaray. The Holland midfielder, who has agreed a move from Inter Milan to the Turkish giants for 10 million euros (£8.4million), received a hero’s welcome after flying into the capital’s Ataturk Airport with his family. Gala confirmed the 28-year-old met with head coach Fatih Terim on a tour of the facilities. Terim said: “We have completed the transfer of a very important player.”

Struggling Rochdale sack their manager

Rochdale have sacked manager John Coleman and his assistant Jimmy Bell. Dale lie 14th in npower League Two, six points shy of the play-off places following their relegation last season, but have endured a dismal run in recent months. After being dumped out of the FA Cup by Morecambe in a first-round replay, Coleman has overseen a run of eight defeats in 11 league matches. Defensive problems appear to lie at the root of their troubles, with their last clean sheet on 27 October.

County add German as Corcoran exits

Ross County have signed German striker Steffen Wohlfarth and released winger Mark Corcoran. Wohlfarth was most recently at Wehen Wiesbaden in the third tier of German football and previously played for Bayern Munich reserves in the same division. County revealed former Hamilton and St Mirren player Corcoran had “left with immediate effect”. The 32-year-old made four appearances in August before being hit by a groin injury and has only played once since. Manager Derek Adams previously brought in Ivan Sproule and Evangelos Ikonomou, and is awaiting a work permit for Canada international Andre Hainault. Adams told the club’s official website: “Anyone we bring in has to add something to what is a great group of players already at the club.”
