DUNFERMLINE Athletic have completed four new signings in a bid to stave off relegation from the Bank of Scotland Premierleague.
The struggling Fifers have brought in Hearts midfielder Stephen Simmons, former Hibernian winger Freddie Daquin and freed Cardiff striker Andy Campbell on contracts until the end of the season and have agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Aberdeen midfielder Scott Muirhead. All four players will go straight into the squad for the visit of Motherwell today.
Manager Jim Leishman praised the club's board for allowing him to strengthen his squad in the midst of a troubled campaign which sees the Fifers sitting only one point ahead of bottom-placed Livingston. He also chose to highlight the fact that the signings have already made it clear to him how committed they are to showing their worth after suffering set-backs in their career.
Simmons had found himself out of the first-team picture under Graham Rix at Hearts, while Daquin failed to make an impression during a short spell at Easter Road.
Campbell has failed to live up to his billing after a 1million move from Middlesbrough to Ninian Park, and Muirhead was in and out the Dons side under Jimmy Calderwood.
Leishman said: "The boys are all up for it. They've all got something to prove for different reasons."
