SCOT Gemmill was yesterday named as Scotland’s national youth teams coach.

And former Scotland international John Collins has also joined the Scottish FA performance department and will assist with national youth team activities on a part-time basis.

Gemmill has been involved in the national youth team set-up over the past three years, assisting with the Scotland under-19 and 21 squads, but will now work full-time with the under-15, 16 and 17 Scotland squads alongside Scott Booth.

He earned 26 caps as a player in a career that included spells with Nottingham Forest, Everton, Preston North End, Leicester City, Oxford United and New Zealand Knights.

Gemmill said: “I have been working alongside Billy Stark, Ricky Sbragia and Scott Booth with the national youth teams for some time now and am delighted to be joining the international set-up on a full-time basis. Mark Wotte has shown great faith in my abilities and I can’t wait to contribute to the Scottish FA’s performance strategy in this role.”

Scottish FA performance director Mark Wotte said: “Scot has a wealth of experience and I am delighted he is joining us on a full-time basis.”
