RANGERS IN CRISIS

• Craig Whyte was spotted last night in Monaco as he takes time away from the crisis back in Govan. While the discredited Rangers owner admitted that there would be “more pain” with redundancies expected, he said he would work with the administrators to “get the issues resolved”. Whyte added that there are no “missing millions” at Ibrox. (Record / Sun)

• Businessman Brian Kennedy has met Rangers administrators Duff and Helps over a potential takeover of the club, but has said that he is not interested in being part of any future consortium. (Mail)

• Celtic are refusing to hand over a £300,000 advance on ticket’s for next month’s Old Firm derby match to Rangers. (Record)

• Rangers players and staff were still in the dark last night over the timing of an announcement on job losses at the financially stricken club. Administrators Duff and Phelps are expected to reveal details of redundancies, including those among the playing squad, this week. Tomorrow is believed to be the likeliest day as it marks the end of the month which has already seen all employees’ salaries paid. (Scotsman)

• Former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady has little sympathy for the plight of administration-hit Rangers and insists the Ibrox club have only themselves to blame for their troubles. The Spartak Moscow player said: “I’m a Celtic fan, so I can’t say I feel much sympathy, but if it was happening to Celtic, of course you would be absolutely gutted.” (Scotsman)

Matt Phillips has revealed he rebuffed a last-ditch attempt by England caretaker manager Stuart Pearce to prevent him from committing his senior international career to Scotland. Although Fifa regulations will permit Phillips to switch his allegiance back to England until he has played in a competitive senior fixture for Scotland, he insists his decision is irreversible as far as he is concerned.
