Rod Stewart goes trouserless in trophy room

IT WAS more a case of ‘Roderick, where’s yer troosers?’ at Celtic Park last night as singer and Celtic fan Rod Stewart posted a photo of himself in the Celtic trophy room wearing a shirt and not much else.

The 69-year-old singer tweeted the picture, captioning it: “I never thought I’d be able to stand in the Celtic Board Room in front of the trophy case. . . with no pants.”

You and us both, Rod.

Hamburg eye van Dijk move

BUNDESLIGA side Hamburg are reportedly preparing a £6 million bid for Virgil van Dijk - but Celtic are likely to knock it back.

The 23-year-old is understood to be top of the German side’s shopping list since coming under new ownership, but will need to up their bid to at least £8 million if they are to compete with a host of other suitors including Sevilla, Swansea, Southampton and Sunderland.

Celtic signed van Dijk from Dutch outfit Groningen last year for a bargain £2.5 million, and look set to make a huge profit on the centre back. (Daily Express)

Southampton line up van Dijk

SOUTHAMPTON - who signed Victor Wanyama and are interested in Fraser Forster - could raid Celtic for highly-sought defender Virgil van Dijk, as they plan for life without Liverpool target Dejan Lovren.

The Saints have already lost Adam Lallana to Liverpool while Luke Shaw has joined Manchester United, and with Croatian international Lovren on the Reds’ radar, Southampton could make a move for van Dijk to strengthen their defensive options.

If a transfer was completed, van Dijk could link up with former Celtic stopper Jos Hooiveld, Jose Fonte and Maya Yoshida. (Various)

Celtic braced for fresh Forster bid

SOUTHAMPTON are preparing a new bid for Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster, after seeing a £7.5 million offer rejected on Tuesday.

The England international is reportedly valued at around £10 million. (The Sun)

Sunderland join van Dijk race

SUNDERLAND are also reportedly interested in the Dutch centre half, who had the player watched in the 4-0 victory over KR Reykjavik at Murrayfield earlier this week.

Gus Poyet is readying a bid for van Dijk - who scored a brace in the straightforward victory - but it is believed a bid of at least £10 million would be needed to tempt Celtic’s hand. (Daily Record)

Rangers end tour with win

A Nicky Law goal in the first half gave Rangers a winning end to their tour of North America against Ottawa Fury at TD Place.

A strong starting line-up saw Kenny Miller partner Kris Boyd up front while Bilel Mohsni and Lee McCulloch anchored the defence.

Ian Black and Callum Gallagher played the majority of the match but it was Law who stole the show with an impressive effort after good work from Lewis MacLeod.

Rangers will return to Scotland to continue preparations for their friendly match against Derby County on August 2nd. (Various)

United KB fourth Hull bid for Robertson

DUNDEE United have rejected a fourth bid from Hull for Scotland left-back Andy Robertson, believed to be over £2.5 million.

However, Hull boss Steve Bruce is unlikely to end his chase there, and will likely test United’s resolve with further bids.

The deadline for any new signings being eligible to play in Hull’s Europa League qualifier against AS Trencin is Friday evening, which could prove pivotal. (The Courier)

Gers fan proposes to girlfriend during Glasgow 2014 rehearsal

A Rangers fan proposed to his girlfriend during the opening ceremony for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Chris Anderson arranged for a message to flash up on the big screen asking: “Aimee Noble, will you marry me?”

Luckily for the 21-year-old, Aimee said yes. (Daily Record)

Aberdeen gain Cameroonian athlete’s support

ABERDEEN will have an extra voice cheering them on against Groningen - after Cameroonian weightlifter Cyrille Fagat appeared at the Glasgow 2014 opening ceremony wearing a Dons hat, given to him by Cameroon’s Aberdeen-born volunteer Eilidh Rankin before the contingency attended Pittodrie last week.

Cyrille told the Evening Express he was now an Aberdeen fan, adding: “I can see many people noticed me with that. I wore it because Eilidh was so nice to me and is my friend. I hope I will be famous in the competition too.” (Evening Express)

Tonga boxer wears the Hoops

CYRILLE wasn’t alone in wearing a Scottish football item of clothing.

Tonga boxer Lomalit Moala had already expressed his love for Celtic, after watching them beat Barcelona in 2012, and was given six tickets to the Reykjavik match on Tuesday.

And the Tongan athlete went one step further, appearing at the opening ceremony wearing a Celtic home jersey. (The Scotsman)
