No bid for Moses yet, says Wigan manager

Wigan manager Roberto
Martinez has indicated he may bring in one more new player before the transfer window closes – and stressed that with Chelsea still yet to match the
Latics’ valuation of Victor Moses, all speculation on that matter
remains “cheap talk”.

Martinez has made four additions so far this summer, recruiting defender Ivan Ramis, midfielder Fraser Fyvie and striker Arouna Kone on permanent deals from Real Mallorca, Aberdeen and Levante respectively. Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi is in on a season-long loan.

With tomorrow’s Barclays Premier League trip to Southampton in mind, the manager revealed there could be
another arrival at the DW
Stadium before next week’s transfer deadline.

However, his squad could be shorn of the services of a key player in the coming days in forward Moses, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea.

The Blues have so far failed to make an offer in line with Wigan’s asking price – believed to be in the region of £9 million – for the 21-year-old and Martinez insists that overall, he is heading into the final days of the window in relaxed mood.

“At the moment, we are still looking at if we can bring in maybe another player, but he has to be the right character to fit in,” Martinez said. “But I’m not too concerned by the rest of the window.”

Asked yesterday if there had been any further developments regarding the Nigeria international’s potential switch to Stamford Bridge, Martinez said: “Not at all”.

He added: “You will get all sorts of speculation and talk, but the reality is, every player has a valuation. If a club matches that valuation, then maybe you have to sit down with the player and there is a decision to be made.

“Victor is an incredible young man. It has been a real joy to see him grow over the last few seasons. We made a massive investment in him as a young man and we are very proud of him.

“If there is nothing to
consider, it is not an issue.”
