Artur Boruc faces sack from Southampton over fan abuse
Artur Boruc stands dejected after Spurs score a late winner
FORMER Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc is facing the sack from Southampton over claims he swore at his own fans.
The 32-year-old Pole had been accused of throwing a water bottle at Tottenham Hotspur fans after the White Hart Lane side defeated Southampton at St Mary’s, but according to a club source, video evidence suggested otherwise: “We watched the CCTV and it is clear Artur threw the bottle at advertising hoardings and not into the crowd so there was no case to answer.
“However we have received a lot of complaints from supporters saying he swore at them.”
Boruc, who made 153 appearances for Celtic, is no stranger to controversy, having been investigated over gestures he made during an Old Firm match to Rangers fans, and unveiling a ‘God Bless the Pope’ t-shirt following the death of Pope John Paul II during a subsequent match between the two sides.
Southampton signed Boruc on a short-term deal from Fiorentina last month, and has conceded 6 goals in 2 matches.
