Spartans’ relentless determination to regain the Central Taxis Premier Division title won by Stirling University last season saw them beat Edinburgh City 2-0 at Meadowbank Stadium.

Goals from Mark Whatley and Donal Henretty moved Spartans eight points ahead of Stirling at the top of the league while Vale of Leithen inflicted a fourth consecutive defeat on Stirling.

Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale recorded a 3-0 win against Civil Service Strollers with goals from Ross Elliot, Callum Connolly and an own goal.

In the third round of the King Cup, goals from Wayne McIntosh (2) and Scott Gormley saw Whitehill Welfare progress against Gretna 2008. Preston Athletic proved too strong for Tynecastle and won 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Sean Martin and another goal from Brian Foster. Finally, after a 1-1 draw in the League Cup, Leith Athletic beat Craigroyston on penalty kicks.
