CELTIC winger Aleksandar Tonev will have to wait a fortnight to learn if his bid to overturn a ban for racial abuse was successful after the Scottish FA adjourned his appeal hearing.

The Bulgarian international, who is on loan from Aston Villa, was found guilty by a Scottish FA disciplinary panel of racially abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan during a match in September, and was subsequently banned for seven matches.

Both Celtic and Tonev maintained the winger’s innocence, appealing against the ruling with a Scottish FA appellate tribunal sitting on Thursday night to consider the case.

The tribunal did not reach a verdict immediately, and has requested a period of time to consider the case before returning a verdict within two weeks.
