ST Mirren manager Danny Lennon plans to hold contract talks with former Hearts defender Danny Grainger.

The left-back, who was released by Hearts as he fought his way back from a cruciate ligament injury, played as a trialist in St Mirren’s 4-2 friendly defeat at Queen of the South last night.

The former St Johnstone and Dundee United player did not have his best night - two short headed passbacks led to team-mates conceding two penalties.

But Lennon realises the 26-year-old, a former team-mate at Gretna, cannot be expected to be at his best after being out since November.

Lennon told St Mirren’s official website: “He’s been a long time out and he’s a very good player. I’ve known the lad since he was a young boy at Gretna and he’s a player that’s always impressed me.

“He’s wholehearted, he’s got a lovely left foot on him, he defends well.

“There’s going to be mistakes with the length of period he’s been out but we’ll sit down and sit with Danny and his representatives.”
