The 34-year-old has been a category 1 referee since 2009 and last took charge of a final when Livingston and Alloa Athletic met in the Challenge Cup Final in 2014.

He’s seen his fair share of controversy already this season, including games involving each of Sunday’s opponents.

He angered Celtic on the opening weekend of the season after awarding Hearts a penalty for a Jamie Walker dive, a mistake he would later admit.

The next month, Rangers boss Mark Warburton was highly critical of Beaton’s decision to give Aberdeen a last-minute free-kick, from which James Maddison curled in the winner.
