Barry Robson quits MLS and seeks Scotland return

SPL clubs have been put on alert after Barry Robson terminated his contract with MLS side 
Vancouver Whitecaps, before declaring: “I’m coming home”.

The former Celtic and Dundee United man penned a two-year deal worth around $600,000 per season with the Canadian outfit in February 2012 and went on to play 16 times for Martin Rennie’s charges.

However, much like compatriot Kenny Miller, the Scot’s spell at the Whitecaps proved underwhelming and the club confirmed his departure on Monday evening.

Now a free agent, Robson has hinted that he is ready for a return to Scottish football. He said: “I am now looking forward to returning home and beginning the next chapter in my career. Thank you to my team-mates, coaches, staff, fans and media 
for making my experience in Vancouver enjoyable.”

Robson, who boasts 17 caps for Scotland, joined Vancouver after two years at Middlesbrough having been signed by new national manager Gordon Strachan. Now aged 34, a move back to his homeland is likely to provide the perfect chance to once again catch his old manager’s eye.

Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi says family reasons were behind Robson’s early 
departure from the MLS.

Lenarduzzi said: “Unfortunately, Barry and his family never fully settled in Vancouver, and we have mutually decided to move in different directions. I wish Barry the very best in the next stage of his career.”
