Football digest: Special award for safe hands McLean

IAN MACKAY presented Musselburgh Windsor goalkeeping coach Jim McLean with an inscribed plate on behalf of the East Lothian club to mark his 30 years as a volunteer coach specialising in training goalkeepers.

The list of winners presented with awards by Kilmarnock FC assistant boss, Billy Brown, included: Jeni Currie (Safe Hands Award); Connor Hosie (Junior Kids Merit Award); Josh Campbell (Junior Merit Award); Marcus Gaines (Senior Merit Award); Laura Robertson (Girls Merit Award) and Fay Logan (Dual Development Graduate SALVA).

Cup set for kick-off

EDINBURGH Primary Schools' Sports Association kick-off the first of their three major cup events, the Inspector's Cup, on Saturday, April 25, with the first round taking place at Wardie Playing Fields.

There will be one qualifier from each of the ten groups of four. Games kick-off at 9am.

The second stage qualifier will be played on Wednesday, April 29, at Meggetland and games will start there at 6pm. The finals of this cup will be at Warriston Playing fields, on either June 3 or 4.

Inspector's Cup (Wardie, Saturday, April 25): Pitch One: Buckstone, Edinburgh Academy, Pentland, South Morningside. Pitch Two: Stenhouse, Wardie, Mary Erskine's and Stewart's-Melville, East Craigs. Pitch Three: Kirkliston, St Mary's (Leith), Bruntsfield, Royal High. Pitch Four: Towerbank Dean Park, Gylemuir, Preston Street. Pitch Five: Blagreen, Blackhall, St John's, Trinity. Pitch Six: Bonaly, Carrick Knowe, Sciennes, St Peter's. Pitch Seven: Murrayburn, Fox Covert, Granton, Duddingston. Pitch Eight: Parsons Green, Broughton, Corstorphine, Cramond. Pitch Nine: St Joseph's/Broomhouse, Echline, Oxgangs, Currie. Pitch Ten: Juniper Green, Davidson's Mains, Gracemount, Craiglockhart.

EPSSA start date

THE first round of the EPSSA Cup will also be played at Wardie, on Saturday, May 9, kicking off once again at 9am. The second stage qualifier for the EPSSA Cup will be played on Wednesday, May 13, at Meggetland, kicking off at 6pm. The finals night will be at Warriston at a later date.

EPSSA Cup (Wardie, Saturday, May 9): Group One: Abbeyhill, Leith Walk, Roseburn, Holy Cross, Stockbridge. Group Two: Canal View, Longstone, Royston, Ratho. Group Three: Clermiston, Nether Currie, St Catherine's, St Mark's RC. Group Four: Drumbrae, Prestonfield, St Cuthbert's, St Ninian's.

Easter competition

REDPATH ALBION have teamed up with the Pilmeny Youth Centre, where the Redpath Albion Boys' Club is based, and are collaborating with the Leith Youth Workers' Forum and Leith Police NAU Team to arrange an Easter football competition for Leith's youth clubs.

The event is being held over three afternoons next week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This will be the third year running for this event and the project has a Crime Diversion theme with youth workers engaging with sometimes hard-to-reach young people with challenging behaviour.

The busiest day will be Seniors day (13s to 16s boys) on the Thursday and one the major funders, Port of Leith HA, will send along a representative to present the trophies to finalists.

Champions Dinner

A CHAMPIONS League Final Dinner, in association with Children 1st, will be held in the World of Sport at Chesser on Wednesday, May 27.

The event will be hosted by Scott Wilson with post-match entertainment from comedian Scott Glynn. Tickets cost 30 per person which includes a bottle of Corona on arrival, three-course meal, additional bottle of Corona on each table and the pleasure of watching the Champions League final on a giant screen. Half-time pies are also included in the price of the ticket and a raffle will be held in aid of Children 1st.
