Word was out that the Lake of Menteith was fishing like a dream and some big fish were around, writes Stuart Fraser.
As I was out for an evening session I went through early to find out what was happening.
As it happened the wind had picked up and some of the areas were just a bit too rough.
Buzzers on floating lines were the tactics but areas were going to be limited to fish. Looking over on to the Butts it looked fairly calm and we decided to fish there until it calmed down.
My cast of two black buzzers and a fab on the point looked the part as we cut the engine and drifted into the reeds. One or two nice fish were moving close in but despite our best efforts did not seem interested.
A decent fish moved at the rear of the boat and my boat partner made a reverse cast and put a pink buzzer in its feeding path. One or two seconds passed and we thought that it was gone. As he was about to lift off and re cast the fish turned and grabbed his buzzer.
That was to be it till it got grey dark and I have never seen so many fish head and tailing in front of the boat. But despite our best efforts they would not take anything.
It was infuriating seeing so many fish and not getting any interest or a take. That’s how it goes sometimes but I will be back again soon.
