Fight fans in for a treat at Leith Vics show
DESPITE injury ruling Leith Victoria's Scottish light-welterweight champion Sandy Forsyth out of his club's annual Christmas boxing show at Edinburgh Masonic Club at Shrubhill tomorrow, Leith Vics official Douglas Fraser insists that fans will still be spoilt for choice.
Fraser said: "Sandy recently went to his doctor with what he thought was a knee injury only to be told that one of his hip joints is misaligned. He'll require at least two months of physiotherapy to correct the problem. He'll miss our show but we have loads of other good bouts on offer for the fans."
In the super-heavyweight division, Lochend's Stewart McIntyre will have a return bout against Hawick's David Patterson, while Gordon Jamieson will face Holyrood's Danny Gollan.
Meanwhile, Fauldhouse light-welterweight Robbie McKee – who was impressive in winning the Eastern title in Fife last week – will fight big-hitting African Elias Gear from Aberdeen's Kingswells club. Calum Knox, son of former British pro flyweight champion Keith, will box Kelty's James Morton.
Fraser added: "There will even be an Eastern championship final held over from last Sunday's district finals when Lochend's John McCallum will clash with Kirkcaldy Kingdom's Sean Finney and Midlothian's youth star, Dylan Moffat, will box Dunfermline's Steve McArthur.
"We've even given Holyrood's Gareth Stemp the chance to rub out the memory of his recent disqualification loss in the East Championships by matching him with Dunfermline southpaw Calum Susans, while another good bout could be our Gambian Commonwealth Games welterweight Emmodu Jammeh against Midlothian's Scott Freeman.
"Again, Lochend's newly-crowned Eastern middleweight champion Tommy Philbin will fight Midlothian's Steve Morgan.
"Morgan always comes to put on a show so the fans will be spoilt for choice."
The first bout is scheduled to take place at 1.00pm.
