Fife pupils to sing tribute to John Thomson
A CHOIR made up of school children from the Fife village of Cardenden will take to the turf at Celtic Park today to perform two songs in memory of their local hero and Celtic goalkeeper John Thomson, who died tragically in 1931 after an on-field collision during a match, aged 22.
Pupils of Denend Primary School will perform two songs in memory of Thomson, who was raised in the mining village and is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers Scotland has produced. After a concerted campaign, he was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2008. This year is the 100th anniversary of his birth.
