Fans flocking to support Arthur against Guzman
TICKETS for Alex Arthur's world title fight against Joan Guzman at Meadowbank are selling at an unprecedented rate, according to the Edinburgh boxer's father.
Alex Arthur senior, who is handling ticket sales on behalf of promoters Sportsnetwork, described demand for the eagerly-anticipated clash with the fighter from the Dominican Republic on May 3 as "stupendous".
He said: "I've never seen anything like it. The constant demand for tickets has already outstripped any previous demand for my son's fights at Meadowbank. It has even outstripped the demand for tickets for the Michael Gomez fight back in October 2003, which is saying something. This has cheered Alex up."
Arthur junior, who flies out to Las Vegas today to train with Wayne McCullough ahead of the Guzman fight, said "I'm delighted that all the signs are that Edinburgh fans are going to turn out in force to give me the kind of support that will help me beat him."
Arthur insists he is unperturbed by the fact his former ring cornerman Brian Clemens has joined the Guzman camp.
He added: "I am not worried about Brian defecting to the Guzman camp. He is a nice guy but I'm more impressed by the fact that I am 10lbs lighter than I was before the Steve Foster fight in December, which means I won't be as listless as I was that night."
