Fan helps Clyde sign Winters

CLYDE have signed former Dundee United and Aberdeen forward Robbie Winters on a short-term deal after a fan stepped in with the offer of paying his wages.

The 34-year-old, who has spent the last seven years at SK Brann in Norway, signed on at the cash-strapped Cumbernauld club until the end of the season.

Clyde director John Ruddy said: "Robbie has signed for us for the rest of the season thanks to the support of one individual.

"It is a welcome and much appreciated assistance in our battle against the drop. Relegation would have a critical effect on the financial position and future shape of the club.

"This backing exists solely to help us with matters on the pitch, the backer refused to give monies for any other reason."

The Scottish Football League confirmed that other deals to beat their 31 March deadline included Raith Rovers signing goalkeeper Scott Finlay, Arbroath re-signing goalkeeper Darryl Burns and Annan Athletic upgrading the contracts of James Baty and Colin Colthart.
