Fallon hopes win will lead to change
AFTER scoring the goal that sealed New Zealand's place at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Rory Fallon urged the rugby-mad nation of his birth to give the sport some recognition.
"We can really do something good for the game. We can really do something to change things in New Zealand," said the Plymouth Argyle striker, whose header secured a 1-0 victory over Bahrain in the Asia/Oceania play-off in Wellington on Saturday.
"We are not trying to take over rugby. Football is football and rugby is rugby. We just want a chance to get in the headlines.
"Don't get me wrong, I love rugby, but sometimes they need to share the limelight."
New Zealand's football chiefs have promised the expected NZ$10 million (4.41 million) and exposure earned from qualifying for the 2010 World Cup finals will not be squandered.
