City tops for £1m+ homes

MORE homes were sold for at least £1 million in the Capital last year than anywhere else in Scotland, the latest property figures have revealed.

The Residential Sales – £1m and Over report, published by Registers of Scotland, found that 53 properties were sold in Edinburgh in million-pound deals – more than twice that of any other local authority area.

However, the number of sales in that financial bracket last year was down 45 per cent compared to the market’s peak in 2008.

Head of commercial services at Registers of Scotland, Rhona Mackay, said: “While the high end of the property market in Scotland has dropped away compared to five years ago, the trend currently appears to be upward. Between 2008 and 2009 the number of £1m plus sales in Scotland halved.”
