Ex-Cowdenbeath chairman considers Livingston rescue

FORMER Cowdenbeath chairman Gordon McDougall is prepared to put together a rescue package for Livingston even if the club plunges into administration.

McDougall is keeping a close eye on events at Almondvale as current owner Angelo Massone was given until the close of business last night to come up with 280,000 in rent arrears that is due to West Lothian council.

The local authority warned the controversial Italian they will take legal action, which could ultimately lead to administrators being called in, if the outstanding monies are not paid in full despite Massone's pleas for a period of grace. Supporters groups hope falling into administration would force Massone's departure from Livingston as he has so far steadfastly refused to relinquish control even though he appears to have no allies left. And McDougall is waiting in the wings to provide financial backing even if the club is forced into administration.

Speaking yesterday, he said: "I'm still keen in Livingston. It would have to be on a sensible business footing."
