Edinburgh pull in players to bolster injury-hit squad
EDINBURGH RUGBY today drafted Simon Cross, Steve Lawrie, Ben Meyer and John Houston into an injury-hit squad for Sunday's visit to London Wasps in the Heineken European Cup.
Coach Andy Robinson said: "A few members of the squad are carrying bumps and knocks, so decisions on these players will be made a bit closer to the time."
Although Edinburgh, who list 26 players, have almost certainly missed qualification, they can win back-to-back away matches in Europe for the first time in five years.
One player whose place must also be in doubt, though, is Ross Rennie who will face a disciplinary hearing in Dublin tomorrow after being cited for a tackle on Paul Sackey last weekend that saw him sent to the sin-bin. Meanwhile, Wasps coach Shaun Edwards is wary of the Capital threat.
He said: "We're very, very cautious of the Edinburgh team. They won at Castres. You can see the reason why. They're very well coached.
"They've got some potent attacking threats and that is why Scotland did well in the autumn internationals. Scotland pushed South Africa incredibly close and could have won. You can see why because the Edinburgh team is stacked full of Scottish internationalists.
"Edinburgh are a team to be reckoned with and respected."
