Easton proves outstanding

BOXERS from Craigmillar, Lochend and Midlothian amateur clubs starred in a hard-earned 4-4 draw with Jimmy Egan's select squad from Manchester, writes BRIAN DONALD.

And none of the eastern winners were more outstanding than Craigmillar youth lightweight, Jason Easton, who boxed brilliantly to outscore powerful puncher Carl Martin 13-6.

Equally impressive was Craigmillar welterweight, Kevin Seston, who looked to have done enough to beat Wesley Gilchrist, only to lose after a 16-16 draw saw the English boxer take the verdict by 37-35 on computer countback.

However, there was no room for doubt as to who was the victor in the clash between Midlothian's youth internationalist flyweight, Dylan Moffat, who used crisp left jabs and hooks to beat McAulay McGowan 9-3.

Lochend welterweight John McCallum posted an impressive 7-3 win by outfighting opponent Chasiah Burton 7-3.

Midlothian's promising youth lightweight, Max Niven, also won, beating Dunfermline's Alex Miller 6-3 in an entertaining scrap.
