East of Scotland: Second-half comeback puts Spartans into semis
SPARTANS recovered from a half-time deficit to beat Civil Service Strollers 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the Image Printers East of Scotland Qualifying Cup. Liam Jack gave the Strollers the lead before Gavin Malin and Dan Gerrard eased Spartans in to the semi-finals.
Vale of Leithen progressed 1-0 with an Aaron Somerville goal enough to see off Premier Division team, Whitehill Welfare.
A Dougie Gair strike for Edinburgh City was the only goal of the game in their match against Heriot-Watt University.
Gretna 2008 had Dan Carmichael to thank when his extra-time effort saw his side defeat Craigroyston 1-0.
In the Central Taxis Premier Division, Selkirk recorded a 3-0 win away to Preston Athletic with goals from Michael Romanes (2) and an own goal.
Edinburgh University drew 2-2 with Lothian Thistle. Andy Watkin and James Craigen put the students ahead before Craig Hume and Mark Lothian earned Thistle a point. Tynecastle travelled to bottom team Coldstream and won 4-3.
In the First Division, Stirling University went top after beating Gala Fairydean 3-2, Easthouses Lily won 7-1 against Ormiston, Eyemouth United and Kelso United shared the points in a 2-2 draw while Leith Athletic beat Peebles 12-0.
