Dundee 2 - 2 Cowdenbeath: Hyde and sick for Beath as Dees gain point
Dundee 2 Hyde 24, 73 Cowdenbeath 2 Crawford 9; Linton 57
ON THE face of it, a draw at Dundee is not a bad result for relegation-haunted Cowdenbeath.
But after leading twice and playing with a style which belied their precarious position in the league, manager Jimmy Nicholl will be disappointed not to have emerged with full points.
Dundee, once more, came back from losing goals to Stevie Crawford and Scott Linton - with trialist Jake Hyde scoring twice - to draw and lengthen their unbeaten league run to 23 matches.
Just two minutes in, winger Mark McKenzie served notice of the visitors' intentions, slashing a dipping shot from 25 yards which just skidded past the post.
Dundee were shocked by the part-timers when, on eight minutes, Crawford put them ahead. Delivered with a superb cross from the right by McKenzie, the veteran rose above his marker to direct a header over goalkeeper Rab Douglas from 12 yards.
But Hyde grabbed an equaliser on 24 minutes. Gary Harkins saw a shot deflect off Hyde and head out to Nicky Riley so, with Cowdenbeath all over the place at the back, the winger was able to plant a cross on the Englishman's head for him to nod in from six yards.
Dundee should have gone ahead just seconds after half-time when Riley, who has continually impressed this season, was picked out at the back post by Craig Forsyth but, despite having plenty of time, the winger rushed his shot and as a result scuffed it wide.
Cowdenbeath took the lead with another well-worked goal. A run down the right by John Robertson caught Dundee flat-footed and his cross into the box was nodded home by the unmarked Linton.
Dundee have made a habit of battling their way out of adversity and did so again on 73 minutes. Gifted the ball by a defensive mistake, Forsyth moved down the left before picking out the unmarked Hyde just a yard from goal and he simply tapped into the unguarded net.
