Duffy angry at wind postponement

HIGH winds caused the postponement of three matches yesterday and prompted Brechin City manager Jim Duffy to hit out at referee Colin Brown for calling off his club's Second Division game at Peterhead.

Arbroath's home game with Clyde was also a casualty, as was the Third Division game between Montrose and Queen's Park. Duffy was unimpressed. He said: "In (the referee's] opinion, it was not safe to play. If that was the case, there would have been another dozen games called off around the country. He should have had both managers in and consulted us."

DUNDEE striker Sean Higgins goes into this afternoon's Alba Challenge Cup semi-final with Annan looking to put a triple dose of misery in the competition behind him. Higgins, a losing goal-scoring finalist with Ross County last season, also lost out when Falkirk defeated County in the final in November 2004.

The Dingwall side won the cup three years ago but Higgins missed out on that game because of illness. This season has seen more bad luck for the striker in the Alba Challenge Cup with Higgins saying, "We got a bye in the first round, I was suspended for the second against Cowdenbeath and then out injured when we won at Stirling. I am over my injury now so hopefully my luck is turning for the better."

Today's other semi-final is a Highland derby between Inverness and Ross County.

A STUNNING strike from Pedro gave champions Barcelona a 1-0 home win over Almeria last night to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season. Bara have 18 points from six matches, three ahead of arch rivals Real Madrid who will be without the injured Cristiano Ronaldo at third-placed Sevilla today.
