Double top sets Campbell up for Milan bid
EDINBURGH'S Martin Campbell, bronze medallist in October's Commonwealth Youth Games in India, and partner Angus Gilmour from Troon are the new European Men's (under 19) doubles No.1s after winning the Belgium Open in Herstal.
The top-seeded Scottish pair beat Austrians Paul Demmelmayer and Bernd Thorman 21-17, 21-15 in the final.
"It's great for us because it was the first big European tournament we've won," said Campbell, 18, who also reached the singles semi-finals.
Campbell has been a full-time player for the past season. He is a member of Badminton Scotland's High Performance squad and has been supported by the East of Scotland Institute of Sport for the past four years.
Being European No.1s will help the pair in their quest for the European Under-19 Championships in Milan this April.
"The European Junior Championships is the goal for us and getting a medal is the big aim," he added.
