Donaldson likes spice of B&I cup draw

Currie coach Ally Donaldson has welcomed a British and Irish rugby cup draw which will see the Malleny Park team entertain Ulster (Nov. 19) and Nottingham (Dec. 17) as well as visit Leeds (Nov. 12) and Swansea (Dec. 10).

Said Donaldson: "It's great to have cross-Border competition, to fly to games, to stay in a hotel and just operate on a bigger stage.

Currie had a series of near-misses last year in the competition and will be looking to break their duck.

"We went to Cornish Pirates and lost 52-31 but that was the most points they had conceded at home in two seasons and and that gave us a lot of confidence," explained Donaldson.

"We said to the guys last year before we played Newport to go on the Newport website and have a look at the history, the internationalists and the British Lions.

"That was our level (yet) we lost by just two points."
