Dominant Bookless wins at Blairgowrie

GLASGOW'S Mark Bookless led throughout – no mean feat over 72 holes of the Lansdowne course at Blairgowrie Golf Club – to win the firstpointusa.com Scottish Boys' Open Strokeplay Championship yesterday.

Bookless (Sandyhills) had rounds of 67, 70, 75 and 70 for a six-under-par total of 282. He won by one shot from Sam Binning (Ranfurly Castle) who put together rounds of 68, 75, 71 and 69.

In third place was the Scottish boys' match-play champion Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck), bidding to join the small band of players who have won both the matchplay and strokeplay under-18 titles.

Elsewhere, Scottish schoolgirls title-winner Kelsey MacDonald won the Scottish Under-21 Girls' Open Amateur Strokeplay championship at Powfoot Golf Club on the shores of the Solway Firth.

The Nairn Dunbar player, who won't be 19 until October, lost to Carly Booth in the final of the Scottish Under-18 girls' matchplay championship at Alyth last week.

MacDonald had three fine sub-par rounds of 70, 70 and 71 against the women's par of 74 for an 11-under-par total of 211.

She led at the end of the first round, was headed by Scottish Universities title-holder Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) at the end of the second round, but kept her nerve and her touch to prevail by one shot from Pretswell.
