Division Three
Albion Rovers 0 East Stirlingshire 2
EAST Stirling climbed to second place courtesy of a well-deserved 2-0 win.
Rovers were reduced to 10 men on 24 minutes when Alan Benton committed a professional foul on Andy Rodgers.
Rodgers then gave Shire the lead when he fired home a volley after a Craig Tully shot had rebounded off the bar. The Shire sealed victory on 51 minutes when Jamie Stevenson latched on to a Rodgers through-ball before slotting the ball home.
Berwick Rangers 0
Montrose 1
RESULTS elsewhere meant Montrose's hard-fought win at Shielfield counted for nothing, with a promotion play-off place now out of reach.
The visitors missed a first half penalty, after player-boss Steven Tweed was fouled in the area. Chris Hegarty's spot-kick was turned onto the post by Jamie Barclay.
The only goal came in 52 minutes. Kevin Bradley was able to sweep the ball home after Barclay had parried a Hegarty shot.
Cowdenbeath 2
Forfar Athletic 2
COWDENBEATH blew their title hopes with a draw that consigned them to the play-offs.
Kevin Gordon poked home a third-minute opener for the visitors and it went from bad to worse as straight from the kick off Johnny Russell notched Forfar's second.
A fine half-volley by Jay Stein got the Blue Brazil back into the game in 33 minutes, and the same player got a deserved equaliser just before the break.
Dumbarton 6
Elgin City 0
DUMBARTON secured promotion to the Second Division with a rout over bottom club Elgin City.
Derek Carcary opened the scoring on 19 minutes in what was to be a fine day for him. Denis McLaughilin followed up with the second. Carcary grabbed his second five minutes before half time, and completed a first-half hat-trick after a fine solo run.
Carcary added a fourth, after the interval and Stevie Murray completed the rout with six minutes to go.
Stenhousemuir 1
Annan Athletic 0
STENHOUSEMUIR now know that they will face Queen's Park in the play-offs after a tense 1-0 win against at Ochilview.
The decisive goal came shortly before the interval from an unlikely source. Kevin Motion's free kick fell to Ian Diack and his cunning cross was swept home by centre back Jordan Smith.
The hosts' keeper Scott Bennett preserved their lead with an agile save to deny Annan talisman Mike Jack.
