Defensive worries mount up for Dundee United
DUNDEE United face a defensive crisis ahead of tomorrow's trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen.
With skipper Lee Wilkie already ruled out with a knee problem, United manager Craig Levein has serious concerns over Andy Webster and Darren Dods. Webster has been laid low by a bout of flu, while Dods has been suffering from a thigh injury and neither has been involved in training.
If both players do not make it for tomorrow's game, Levein will be left with only Garry Kenneth as a recognised centre-half and may have to call upon the likes of full-back Sean Dillon to deputise in the middle.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen have agreed a deal to sign former Scotland and Rangers defender Maurice Ross until January.
The 28-year-old right-back, who has been training with the club for more than a week at his own request, was released by Turkish side Kocaelispor at the end of last season.
Ross will complete his move to Aberdeen once they receive international clearance, which is expected to be before tomorrow's match.
Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee was sufficiently impressed by the former Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves, Millwall and Viking Stavanger player, who completed 90 minutes in a 1-0 friendly win over Dundee on Tuesday.
McGhee said: "Someone as good as Maurice, when he comes along, first of all you look at him to see if he's fit. He has really looked terrific."
