Davis Cup for Glasgow

GREAT Britain's Davis Cup tie against Ukraine next year will be staged at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, giving British No1 Andy Murray the chance to perform in front of his fellow countrymen.

The winner of the Euro-Africa Zone Group One tie from 6-8 March will advance to the World Group play-offs in September, the losing nation facing a tie in July to remain in Group One.

Davis Cup captain John Lloyd said: "Home Davis Cup ties are a fantastic opportunity to get behind the team and we will be looking for plenty of support when we take on Ukraine next year.

"We last played them in 2006 in Odessa, which was my first tie as captain. It was a tough tie and we will certainly not be underestimating them, the support of a passionate crowd in Scotland could make all the difference.

"This year was extremely disappointing for us, but the focus is now on fighting to get back among the elite nations in 2010 and I can't wait to get started in March."

Britain dropped out of the World Group in September after losing 3-2 to Austria at Wimbledon, despite Andy Murray winning both of his singles matches.

Alex Bogdanovic lost both of his matches and Jamie Murray and Ross Hutchins were also beaten in the doubles.
