Darth Maple sends Toon barmy

THREE-TIMES world champion John Part eased to a 3-0 win over Holland's Toon Greebe at the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

The 43-year-old Canadian – known as 'Darth Maple' – produced a thoroughly dominant display to reach the second round.

Lancashire's Ronnie Baxter also had a straightforward victory, the 48-year-old beating Japan's Haruki Muramatsu 3-0 to set up a second-round clash with Scotland's Gary Anderson. Yesterday's action was hit by the adverse weather in London as even the players struggled to get to Alexandra Palace.

Vincent van der Voort – whose flight to London was cancelled yesterday and who ended up walking three miles to the venue – sealed his last-32 place with a 3-0 win over Dylan Duo.

Terry Jenkins edged a five-set thriller with Paul Nicholson, winning 3-2 to move beyond the first round for the first time in three years.
