Cycling: Oliphant is kept busy
Capital cycling star Evan Oliphant is gearing up for a hectic climax to the season, with three major events on his agenda.
Oliphant has been called into the Endura Racing Team squad for the Tour of Britain which starts on Saturday, having initially been listed as a reserve.
He earned the nod after showing up well in a recent training camp that followed part of the route in the South West of England. This is his sixth appearance in the event, which this year will be contested over eight stages.
Oliphant will then switch surfaces to compete at the National Track Championships in Manchester before flying out to Delhi to compete in the Commonwealth Games.
"It's a huge honour for me and I hope to improve on my fourth place from Melbourne 2006," he said.
In addition to racing on the track, he will ride in the road race. "The course is pan flat and when it's like that everyone has a chance if you get in the right move."
He will go into the coming weeks in fine form and with his confidence high after chalking up a host of wins this season, most recently in Sunday's Wanlockhead Road Race.
