Cycling: John's gold in Euro sprint
City of Edinburgh cyclist John Paul produced a stunning performance to land gold in the junior sprint at the European Junior Track Championships in Portugal.
After qualifying fourth the previous day, Paul had progressed to the semi finals and, when racing resumed yesterday he despatched the No.?1 seed Max Niederlag of Germany 2-0 to book his place in the final. There, he saw off the challenge of the Russian Nikita Shurshin by a similar score to clinch the title.
Paul's club-mate Callum Skinner lost out at the semi-final stage of the Under-23 competition but beat Philipp Thiele of Germany 2-1 in the third-place decider to add bronze to the silver he won in the team sprint earlier in the week.
