Cycling: Cullen finds Spark in Bochum
FORMER City of Edinburgh cyclist Kate Cullen recorded her best result of the season and bagged valuable world ranking points when she finished eighth at the Sparkassen Giro in Bochum, Germany, writes COLIN RENTON.
Riding for her Dutch team, Moving Ladies, the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist lined up alongside many of the world's top performers and was pipped in the closing sprint, with Australia's World Championship medallist Rochelle Gilmore snatching victory. The men's event was won by British sprint star Mark Cavendish, who outsprinted several riders he had battled with in the Tour de France.
Elsewhere, Musselburgh RCC veteran Andy Laing helped the Scottish contingent at the European Masters Track Championships in Manchester boost their medal tally to 16. He was victorious in the 55-59 bronze medal ride-off.
There was further cause for celebration at the East Lothian club when Alistair Taylor clinched bronze in the 45-49 years pursuit.
