Cycling: Croall pulls further clear
David MARTIN (Bicycleworks) continued his season long battle with defending champion Bruce Croall (City of Edinburgh) in last night's round of the DHL Meadowbank National Track League.
But, despite scoring in three events, Martin lost more ground and now appears to have little chance of catching his rival, who extended his advantage by a further two points.
Croall topped and tailed an entertaining programme of racing with wins in the 12-lap scratch and the 35-lap scratch events to move closer to a sixth successive title.
Martin was runner-up in each of those races but bagged a valuable win in the Devil Take the Hindmost, with Croall failing to score after an early elimination. The champion, however, also won his sprint heat and the gap between the leading duo now looks insurmountable with only three weeks of racing left.
Meanwhile, Lulu Bartlett (Edinburgh RC) was the leading performer in the youths' competition.
