Cycling: Croall and Sherwood dominate
CITY OF EDINBURGH cycling colleagues Daisy Sherwood and Bruce Croall displayed the form that landed them a British grass track title apiece at the weekend when they returned to familiar territory to contest last night's round of the DHL Meadowbank National Track League.
Croall, in particular, was in stunning form, extending his lead at the top of the table with wins in four of his five events.
He set the tone for the evening with first place in the scratch over 12 laps and went on to win the sprint, derny-paced 5 kilometres and the 10 kilometre scratch when he toyed with the opposition before powering away on the final circuit to come home several lengths clear.
The only blot on Croall's otherwise perfect outing came in the Devil Take the Hindmost where he was eliminated without scoring, clearing the way for Martin Ross (Musselburgh RCC) to chalk up a win over Derek Smith (City of Edinburgh).
Sherwood was also impressive, strengthening her grip on top spot in the women's league with a win over her male opponents in the Unknown Distance race and a second place to beat junior Ben McCullough-Young in the B class Devil Take the Hindmost.
