City of Edinburgh cyclist John Paul continued his racing in the United States with a podium finish in the individual sprint at the UCI Festival of Speed in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania.
The double Scottish champion progressed to the semi-final stage where he was beaten by the eventual winner Nijisane Phillip of Trinidad. That set up a showdown with the American Kevin Masker in the best-of-three ride-off for third spot.
Paul is using high class international competition to compensate for the intensity of the British Cycling Academy programme after being dropped from the Manchester-based squad.
And he showed that he was in decent shape when he dispensed with the need for a third ride by posting victories in each of the first two legs.
Another Scot, the former City of Edinburgh rider Kayleigh Brogan, who now races for the Breast Cancer Care Cycling Team, was sixth in the elimination and ten-kilometre scratch events.
