Cycling: Steen continues hot form
CITY OF EDINBURGH cyclist Graeme Steen continued the winning form he had shown at last weekend's Edinburgh Grand Prix when he chalked up two successes in the latest round of the DHL Meadowbank National Track League last night, writes COLIN RENTON.
The first leg of Steen's double came in the 15-lap points race, where he got the better of David Martin (Bicyclworks.com), and he had another victory in the closing event, the 30-lap scratch, when he powered home clear of his colleagues Nicky Hall and Derek Smith.
Hall also finished runner-up to another team-mate, Bruce Croall, in the 20-lap block handicap where half a wheel covered the first three riders, and had a fine win in the derny-paced event.
Meanwhile, new Scottish 500 metres record holder Alison Chisholm (Edinburgh RC) had the edge in a highly-competitive women's sprint when she snatched victory on the line over Daisy Sherwood (City of Edinburgh), who also took the runners-up slot behind unattached rider Callum Watson in the Devil Take the Hindmost.
In the youths competition, Edinburgh Racers youngster Adam Stobbart – already in his fifth season of racing – celebrated his 11th birthday in style with a win in the block handicap.
