Cycling: Oliphant and Croall quick off the mark
A TRIO of road cycling stars from Endura Racing Team ensured some top-class racing in last night's round of the DHL Meadowbank National Track League.
The leading performer was Evan Oliphant, who posted two wins and a second-place finish on his first outing of the season at the London Road Velodrome. However, he was forced to work hard for his success and could only finish runner-up to fellow Commonwealth Games prospect and league leader Bruce Croall (City of Edinburgh) in the 15-lap scratch.
However, Oliphant went one better in the Devil Take the Hindmost when he edged out his team-mate James McCallum, and he repeated that success in the 35-lap scratch, when he caught Callum Watson (City of Edinburgh) with a late burst after powering past the third Endura rider, Ross Creber. Emma Baird (City of Edinburgh) was the best of the women on show, with a fine win in the sprint being the highlight.
Meanwhile, Roman Pellet (Edinburgh RC) extended his advantage in the junior league when he won the Devil Take the Hindmost for C riders, was runner-up in the six-lap handicap and finished third in the 15-lap scratch.
