Cycling: Hoy to take on Kenny in Rotterdam

Sir Chris Hoy has begun planning for 2013 after confirming that he will contest the Sprinters Cup at the Rotterdam Six Day Meeting in January.

The 36-year-old Capital
cyclist, who took his Olympic gold medal tally to six with a double victory in London, has now returned to training at his Manchester base. He has stated that he will take time to reach a decision over whether to
compete at the Glasgow
Commonwealth Games in 2014.

In the meantime, he intends to have a low-key season, racing in competitions where the pressure is less intense. However, the Rotterdam meeting promises to be challenging with Hoy’s opponents set to include fellow Briton Jason Kenny, the man who succeeded Hoy as Olympic sprint champion and featured alongside the Scot in GB’s team sprint victory.

Hoy has already tasted success at the aptly named Ahoy Velodrome in Rotterdam, having lifted the prestigious title in 2009.

He plans to select his races carefully over the coming year but may feature on home soil in the Revolution Series. The first three rounds of that competition will take place in Manchester, before the Glasgow finale in February.
