Cycling: Hoy opts out of GB squad
CHRIS HOY has opted out of the Great Britain cycling squad to compete in the second leg of the UCI World Cup in Melbourne later this month.
Hoy contributed three of the ten British wins when the opening round took place in Manchester earlier this month, striking gold in the Keirin, individual sprint and team sprint. Those results mean the 33-year-old Capital star has already qualified for next year's World Championships in Copenhagen.
Hoy believes he can make more productive use of his time by focusing on training, although he may yet compete in the other rounds, which will take place in Cali, Colombia next month and in January at the Laoshan Velodrome in Beijing, the scene of his Olympic triumph last year.
Scots Ross Edgar and Andy Fearn are part of the dozen GB riders going to Australia.
